I See You
Why I Love This Wedding Photograph
This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.
Wedding photography is a beautiful art that captures the most memorable moments of a couple's special day. As a documentary wedding photographer, I aim to capture every moment as it unfolds naturally without artificial poses or staged scenes. I strive to tell the wedding day's story through my lens authentically to the couple's love story.
One of my favourite things about being a documentary wedding photographer is observing the little moments that often go unnoticed. I love looking for cute moments, such as children behaving like children or how a groom looks at his bride when he thinks no one is watching. These moments are often the most genuine and heartfelt, and they can truly capture the essence of the day.
For this Wedding Photograph, we are going back to 2013 and the wedding of Joyce & Phillip. It’s a lovely moment, taken just before the ceremony started. The little Bridesmaid plays on the floor while her mum chats with another guest.
I purposefully shot this image from a very low angle and framed the little girl with her mum’s legs to give us context.
This beautiful little girl must be fourteen or fifteen now, and I love how nostalgic memories like this can take us right back to that very moment, which was 22nd June 2013 at precisely 1:53 pm.
Documentary wedding photography is not only about capturing cute moments. It's also about capturing the emotions and feelings of the day. From the nervous anticipation before the ceremony to the joyful celebration at the reception, every moment is an opportunity to tell the couple's story. I strive to capture the day's emotions beautifully and timelessly so the couple can relive those feelings for years to come.
I love this Wedding Photo from Joyce & Phillip’s Day, and I hope you do too.
