Simple Love

Why I Love This Wedding Photograph

This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.

The emotion of a simple touch

A Journey back to 2015 for today's dip into my archives from the Wedding of Anna and Mark.

As you know, I'm a documentary wedding photographer, meaning none of my photographs are staged or set up.

It affords me the incredible privilege of simply being an observer at a wedding, and I spend as much time as possible looking for these delicate moments.

In this case, Anna and Mark had just become husband and wife, and Anna's grandmother approached her to give congratulations.

My approach to wedding photography is a measured one. I don't simply shoot thousands of photographs and "hope for the best". It's vital to me that the integrity of the moment remains intact. Once I have shots like this, which I get very quickly, I move away from the scene to let it unfold naturally.

I'm not the kind of photographer that will interrupt this moment and ask for a "nice smile" or change it in any way.

Imagine this moment evaporating, or worse, never occurring in the first place because of my intervention. That would just be awful.

I pride myself on my unobtrusive nature and want my clients to have their wedding day moments with the people that matter - their friends and family.

I love this Wedding Photo from Anna and Mark's Day, and I hope you do too.

A Note about Black & White Wedding Photographs

My clients receive each photograph in both colour and monochrome. This is an excellent way for them to experience more tender moments (often better in black and white) and see their day's full colour and detail.
