The Personal Gift

Why I Love This Wedding Photograph

This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.

This is more than one photograph. It’s taken from Sophie and Ash’s Wedding in North Yorkshire, which I photographed a few years back.

I remember the day vividly, as it was a beautifully sunny day full of happiness and emotion.

As a Documentary Wedding Photographer, I need to look for mini-stories or moments within moments if you like.

A good storytelling photographer will not simply present their clients with a set of close-up candid headshots - instead, there will be sequences that stitch together the day's timeline.

In this instance, Sophie’s mum entered the bridal suite during a moment of fun and then proceeded to gift her a bracelet. My memory doesn’t serve me well with the exact details, whether it was Sophie’s mum’s bracelet or a grandmother perhaps.

However, I love the sequence; it wraps up a very emotional moment between them.

Of course, I want to point out that this is a very private moment. Whilst I’m there professionally as a Wedding Photographer, it is not my role to interfere, direct or affect this moment. My clients understand that I will work to get the day's story as it unfolds rather than make it myself.

I love this little sequence of Wedding Photos from Sophie and Ash’s day, and I hope you do too.
