The Magic of Light

Why I Love This Wedding Photograph

This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.

Emily during Bridal Prep Photography

When it comes to documentary wedding photography, there are many things that I have to consider. From the dress and the venue to the flowers and the catering, there are plenty of details to capture. However, one of the most important aspects of wedding photography is the use of light.

Light is what makes or breaks a photo. Whether I'm dealing with harsh sunlight or a cloudy day, or a dimly lit bedroom like this photo, it's essential to know how to work with the light I have.

By looking for pockets of light, I can create beautiful, unique images that showcase the moment unfolding before me.

Composition is also vital in candid wedding photography. By paying attention to the framing and positioning of myself as the photographer, I can create candid images that are still creative.

Capturing the right moment is crucial in wedding photography. Whether it's a stolen kiss or a heartfelt embrace, or, as in this photograph, the bridal preparation, the right moment can make all the difference in creating images that truly capture the essence of the day.

Ultimately, the key to successful documentary wedding photography is a combination of light, composition, and moment. By paying attention to these three elements, I aim to create candid yet creative images, capturing the love and joy of the day in a way that will be cherished for years to come.

I love this Wedding Photo, and I hope you do too.

A Note about Black & White Wedding Photographs

My clients receive each photograph in both colour and monochrome. This is an excellent way for them to experience more tender moments (often better in black and white) and see their day's full colour and detail.
