The First Kiss
Why I Love this Wedding Photo Series
From a wedding at Great Fosters in 2017
It's June 2021 as I write this piece. Of course, the last fifteen months have seen almost no weddings for me to photograph due to the pandemic.
However, I'm optimistic and excited that my July weddings next month are going ahead. It will be incredible to be able to be part of my clients' wedding celebrations again.
You will notice that I've been delving into the archive to keep the journal as active as possible.
And today, we are revisiting the wedding of Emma & Luke from their wedding at Great Fosters, Surrey, in the summer of 2017.
It was a wonderful wedding of a young couple, clearly very much in love. Emma had told me previously that she loved my black and white style.
I love the timeless nature of black and white wedding photography. However, all my clients get every image in both Colour and Black and White - meaning they get the best of both worlds.
During the ceremony, there were nerves, of course—a few tears, too from some bridesmaids in the congregation.
But it was really when the registrar proclaimed that "you may now kiss your bride" that the real emotion came out.
I shot a series of images, as you can see; the kiss itself, the embrace after and then the interlinking of hands.
As a Documentary Wedding Photographer keeping an eye out for such moments is critical. It's very easy to "snap away" and take hundreds of shots and hope for the best. But an experienced wedding photographer will observe first. They are allowing the moments to develop before getting the shot.
This style of considered photography means the clients and guests can be almost unaware of the photographs being created to remind them of these lovely moments forever.
