Father and Daughter at The Pump Rooms, Bath

Why I Love this Wedding Photograph

From a Wedding at The Pump Rooms, Bath

Last Summer, I photographed a beautiful wedding a The Pump Rooms, Bath.

It was the wedding of Sarah and Dan and because the ceremony was at 8 am, to allow the Roman Baths to open to the public on time.

Those of you who have explored my journal will notice many posts that I have titled Why I Love this Wedding Photograph.

The idea behind this series of posts is to give you an insight into why I, as the photographer, personally like a particular wedding photograph.

In this case, it was one of those moments that I knew that not only I would love, but that Sarah and her Father would adore too.

The celebration was intimate, with just close family and friends present, but it was clear to see the emotion as Sarah walked across the famous cobbled stones of The Pump Rooms.

My daughter is still very young, but I often wonder what I will be like if, as I hope, one day I get to walk her down the aisle.

In this case, Sarah's Father is holding her close, and rightly soo. It is possibly one of the most intimate moments a father will share with his daughter.

You'll see that Sarah's eyes are fixed on Dan, the groom, who is waiting for her only yards away.

I've framed the photograph to include the bridesmaids too.

As a pure documentary wedding photographer, I allow the wedding to unfold in all its natural glory.

I don't interject or force any unnecessary configurations of people. My role is to tell the story of the events that unfold in a natural and observational way.

I am always looking out for eye contact, touch and emotion. These are the human facets that I believe show the connections between people.

It's clear to see in this wedding photograph the excitement of Sarah. But also the love and cherished nature of the relationship between her and her father.

I love this wedding photograph, and I hope you do too.

A couple more from the Wedding at The Pump Rooms, Bath

I’ll leave you with a couple more photographs from the immediate moments after this.

Both of these images focus on the father. As a storyteller, I want to connect the dots and build a picture of the relationships.

I think these are beautiful tender moments that show just how proud Sarah’s Father is on her wedding day.
