Why I Love this Wedding Photograph

Bridal Portrait

A Beautiful, but Natural Bridal Portrait

From a Wedding Ceremony at Whatley Manor

This photograph is a candid bridal portrait from a wedding I shot at the incredible Whatley Manor in 2010.

As a Documentary Wedding Photographer, I'm often asked if I "pose" my clients. The answer is a straightforward No.

A pure documentary wedding photographer will allow the wedding to reveal itself in front of them. And that goes for capturing perfectly candid, natural portraits too.

Remember, Candid Wedding Photography is just that. Candid. It's an adjective, and as such, there are no grey areas.

In this image, the bride had placed herself in front of the windows to admire her newly delivered wedding bouquet.

My core role as a photojournalist is to look out constantly for the trinity of a good photograph; light, composition and moment.

By ensuring I'm always looking for these elements, I can often capture these timeless, beautiful moments - which are not staged or directed in any way.

This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.
