Simple Objects - A test of the GF 110mm f2 R LM WR Lens
For the next 10 days or so I have the GF 110mm F2 LM WR Lens on loan from Hire a Camera.
I'm not sure how much use I'll get from it as I'm away for much of that time (bad planning on my part) but I wanted to have a look and see if it's something that I may consider adding to my GFX bag in the future.
The Fuji GF 110mm f2 R LM WR is a BIG lens, and quite heavy. I found that for the first time in a very long time, I needed to rely on a tripod to shoot with it in low light situations.
I've mentioned before that the GFX 50S is in no way a replacement for my X-Series and I really utilise it for my Family Photography business which is a prints only operation.
For me, really, anything that comes out of the GFX has to be printed. It seems like such a waste to simply have images in digital format. Of course, for the purpose of blogging etc, we have to endure web compression and all that goes with that - but I can already see, without printing these images (I mean, who would print these?) that the sharpness of the Fuji GF 110mm f2 R LM WR is like a razor.

Finally, I took a couple of hand-held snaps of Albie. As I said, this is a lens really that I think would live on a tripod and I wouldn't expect to use this comfortably for any type of reportage or candid shoot.

The lens is well constructed and I feel will make a beautiful portrait studio lens, and probably be very useful in the right hands for long scale landscape work too.
I remain absolutely amazed at the quality of the files that come out of the GFX and it's associated lenses. The X-Series, of course, works so well for me for my day to day photography, but when printed, the GFX really comes into its own.
Will I buy this lens? Probably not in all fairness. It remains to be seen, especially if I [finally] get my studio portraits off the ground.
But for now, after literally using the GF 110mm f2 R LM WR for just around an hour, I'll marvel at it's quality but bow to those who are far more refined at portraiture and utilising this lens like Damien Lovegrove.
