The Staircase

Why I Love This Wedding Photo

This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.

From a Wedding at St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London

I’m taking you back to April 2012 for this edition of Why I Love This Wedding Photograph.

It was the Wedding of Marianna and Adrian at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel London.

Although this was taken fourteen years ago, I can still recall this moment. I had finished Bridal Prep photography with Marianna in one of the hotel suites, and she was heading down the wonderful stairs to meet the Registrars.

As I tell all my students, the core components of any good photograph are Light, Composition and Moment.

When Marianna approached the staircase, I knew I had to remain at the top to get a wonderfully classic filmic look as she swept down the stairs and into the afternoon, light streaming in through the windows.

I Love this Wedding Photo, and I hope you do too.
