Why I Love This Wedding Photo
This post is part of my Why I Love this Wedding Picture series, where I describe why I, as the photographer, love a particular image or series of photographs.

I am taking you back to 2014 for this instalment of Why I Love This Wedding Photograph.
As a pure documentary wedding photographer, I don’t stage or pose images. But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it when guests organise their own little group shots or family portraits.
I love it. It gives me the perfect opportunity to photograph the candid moments happening around those scenes—the moments before, after, and in between-that fit perfectly into my storytelling approach.
This particular photo was taken just after the mums had been calling, “Look this way!” and the dads were pulling their best funny faces, all in the hope of getting these three little bridesmaids to sit still and smile at the camera. And they did, for the parents’ delight. They got that perfect photo they’ll cherish forever.
But then came this moment—the girls, now giggling and sharing whispers, wondering how they’d manage to get off that bench in one piece. This snapshot of shared mischief and innocence holds so much more charm for me than the formal shot ever could.
It’s these moments between moments that will spark laughter and a deep sense of nostalgia years from now.
I love this wedding photo, and I hope you do, too.
