Portraits with the Fujifilm GFX 100S
Studio Portraits with the Fujifilm GFX 100S
Even though my main business is as a Documentary Wedding Photographer, I have recently opened a headshot and portrait studio here in Malmesbury, North Wiltshire.
My primary camera is the Fujifilm GFX 100S, a medium-format camera with several advantages for shooting portraits.
Its larger sensor size (43.8 x 32.9 mm) allows for a shallower depth of field, which can be used to create a beautiful bokeh effect, separating the subject from the background and giving a more three-dimensional look to the image. This can be particularly useful for portrait photography, where the subject is often the main focus of the picture.
The GFX 100S has 102 megapixels, which can capture tremendous detail and produce high-resolution images. This is important for portrait photography because it allows for a more detailed picture, with sharper edges and finer details, giving the photograph a more lifelike appearance.
The GFX 100S also has excellent dynamic range and colour reproduction, essential for accurately capturing skin tones and producing images with rich, vibrant colours. This can help reveal the subject's personality, creating a more impactful portrait.
The GFX 100S is relatively compact and lightweight for a medium-format camera, making it more portable and easier to handle than other medium-format cameras. This can be particularly useful for portrait photographers who must move around quickly.
Overall, the Fujifilm GFX 100S is an excellent choice for shooting portraits, offering exceptional image quality, detail, and colour reproduction, along with the ability to create beautiful bokeh and a more three-dimensional look to the image.
All of these portraits were shot with the GF80mm F1.7 Lens.
